The two main types of councillors include Ward Councillors and Proportional Representative Councillors. Three different kinds of municipalities that exist in South Africa are Metro, District Local and Local.
A political party chooses their Proportional Representative councillor (or PR-Representative). The political party chooses the representative. However, it depends on the amount of votes they receive in local elections. To represent the entire municipality, all elected officials need be in sync. They act as a bridge between the people and the Council.
Other than a request to take a leave of absence, councillors must participate in every Council or committee meeting. The Code of Conduct must be adhered to by all councillors in order in order to ensure that the community’s greatest interests are taken care of. A Ward Councillor has to create committees which allow for active participation by citizens of the ward. 97sff5chx6.
